I briefly went down a rabbit hole based on this story in Oregon. They want to dismantle white supremacy in MATH classes! Yes, math.
In this first training video they say:
"For example, we might think about focusing on getting the right answer." And that this somehow is "a representation of, or perpetuation of, white supremacy culture".
(WHAT?!)
Later in the video they list out what an "anti-racist" math teacher would do differently. Among other points they say:
- "Centering ethno-mathematics"
- "Supporting students to reclaim their mathematical ancestry"
I don't even know what this means. It feels like I'm being pranked. I'm waiting for Ashton Kutcher to jump out from the presentation. Or maybe Rick Astley will start dancing!
But then it gets worse!
They then discuss the "Pyramid of White Supremacy". 🤣 I kid you not. Since I had to see this, so do you:

Are your eyes are done rolling around in the back of your head?
This helps me see why they think they must root out every vestige of "white supremacy". Because it'll ultimately result in genocide! They think they are fighting actual Nazis and that even "indifference" is a first step towards mass murder!
These people are delusional. I feel like I'm living on another planet sometimes.
I can go on and on showing how insanely ridiculous this has become. This garbage needs to get addressed head on. Soon enough (if not already) we'll have a whole generation of mindless automatons destroying our country. (by pitting people against each other on the basis of their physical/sexual identity)
I'll be fair and generous for a minute: Some of these folks start down this path with good intentions. Of course, I want to live in a society free of racism and violence - and they do too. But these children are being wildly misled. (the ones doing the teaching I'm more critical of)
So, where do we go from here? We're clearly losing this battle. I don't have all the answers. I know I need to teach my son to think objectively and instill the values I believe in.
I think we need to give people a similar moral/emotional argument to fight for.
I would start with the topic of war. I'd like to think we have common ground on ending war. After all, killing innocent women and children is worse than a "microaggression"! (And if they don't accept that premise, then they are virtually a lost cause....and maybe they are at this point)
Or, how do we show them the destruction they're causing?
I get so frustrated with this nonsense, I just had to write a quick post on this. If you all have suggestions on what we can do to fight this insanity, I'd love to hear it!
