I often find myself coming here to write a quick blurb when something pisses me off enough. I need to change that. I even find myself watching a lot of content online that gets me upset. Why do I do that to myself?! It's not just me - videos by Matt Walsh, Daily Wire, Tim Pool etc all seem to focus on the most bizarre and infuriating stories.
I excuse it away as staying up on current events. This is true, but surely it is not healthy for the soul in large quantities. There seems to be a continuous supply of videos of trans dudes dancing half-naked in front of little children, cops shooting innocent people, politicians lying, fights breaking out in the streets and submarines imploding in the ocean.
However, there is a whole world of genuinely uplifting and amazing content to watch as well. For example, the Expedition Bible YouTube channel has really interesting content about archaeology which enhances my faith and reinforces the authority of Scripture. I suggest you check that channel out.
I was also scrolling through TikTok today and saw this video, which is the reason for my post today. Give it a watch:
Isn't that an amazing story? Of course, it's always amazing when someone accepts Christ into their life. After watching some of her other videos, I realized that prior to this she was posting daily updates about taking her 3 year old daughter to Vacation Bible School at a local church. She never went to church her entire life (and humorously pronounces Ephesians incorrectly - which is totally understandable!) and she didn't know what to expect. She met the Pastor, but didn't realize he was the Pastor until later because he was singing and dancing along with the kids, which she found surprising. Everyone was very welcoming and it sounds like a nice church.
She started doing this all for her daughter, but within a week she became a Christian!
Most people don't share their entire lives on social media, so just imagine how many times this happens each day!
I didn't got to church for quite a few years, but started going consistenly about 4 years ago. To be honest, I initially did this solely for my son's sake. I learned that he didn't even know about Noah and the ark! I said to myself, "How am I raising a son who doesn't even know the most basic and famous Bible stories?!"
Ever since then, my relationship with Christ has strengthened quite a bit - especially the past year. Even though I've been a Christian since childhood, this lady's video was similar to my experience and I found it very uplifting.
Going forward, I'm going to try and avoid much of the negativity of this world - or at least put less of a focus on that stuff. Why are we shocked when evil things happen? As my wonderful Pastor once told me, "Broken people do broken things". We live in a fallen world, but we know there is hope!
If you're still reading this, I'd love to hear an uplifting story of your own. It doesn't have to be spiritual in nature. Maybe you got a new job, recovered from an illness, moved to a new town, etc. Feel free to comment, or send me an e-mail. I'd love to hear it!
I have not created a new video or went live on my YouTube channel in a while, but will try to Sunday night at 8 PM EST. I think I'll pull a collection of positive news and videos like the one above and just talk about that. If you read this far, I appreciate you!
Take care,
-Steve
