We've seen things this year we never thought would happen. Do you remember when a BLM "protest" trashed CNN?

Or the infamous "fiery, but mostly peaceful" protests? This is a classic:

And this pretty much sums up the BLM movement:

I also have to include my favorite entrepreneur 😂

But all of this seems like the distant past. We're now dealing with a government that is implementing totalitarianism. They are closing people's businesses, destroying their lives. They're restricting visitor access to hospitals for immediate family. They're restricting access to funerals so immediate family can get some closure. People are dying alone. Suicides and depression are increasing. Government officials are calling for mandatory vaccinations. They're even telling us not to visit family for Christmas! And even more depressing, they're telling us things will be like this for many months. Even Biden said "Our darkest days...are ahead of us".
The American people have been put through a lot this year. Half the Country doesn't even accept the election results. Surprisingly, they've accepted all of this without much resistance. But there will be a breaking point. (My guess is that an emboldened and opportunistic ATF will enforce even more wildly unconstitutional laws. This is a deal-breaker for many conservatives.)
More importantly however, people are losing hope. This is heartbreaking and will have devastating consequences. Even Americans who don't normally pay attention to the shenanigans in D.C. are now seeing the wasteful spending by our rulers. They're including "COVID relief" and "business-as-usual" all in the same vote. It's exposing the ridiculousness of the entire process. The House voted on a record 5,000+ page bill that nobody had the time to read...and it passed! (Even AOC criticized the process and voted for it anyway!)
It's all complete insanity.
Fortunately, us Christians have more to live for. A revealing study found that those who attend church regularly did not see a decline in mental health. How can this be? This has been a terrible year by nearly every metric. It's because our hope is not in things of this world, but in Christ. Colossians 3:2-4 reads, "Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God. And when Christ, who is your life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all his glory."
I grew up in a Baptist church and we used to sing all of these old hymns. (Which, of course, I still love!) A classic is My Hope Is Built On Nothing Less. The chorus goes "On Christ the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand." I just love it.
Let's celebrate the birth of Christ today and not lose sight of where our hope lies.
Merry Christmas everyone!
