Our Work
We live in an age where freedom and justice are key, but many churches are yet to catch up with it. They still retain the taste of the bible-thumping, fire and brimstone preacher who "scares you straight".
We need to have a more relaxed approach to teaching, so that people can be themselves, and come together "just as they are". The churches may not have intended it, but they have promoted an image of Christianity as something mean-spirited and harsh.
The fact is that Christianity has always fought against that type of enemy within. Priests in the Catholic Church long ago used to whip themselves mercilessly as a way to distance themselves from the flesh. They didn't realize that it was in fact carnal thinking to even imagine that such a thing would work. Today we've grown a lot and come a long way, but some vestiges of that type of thinking remain.
The Christian Anarchist Network seeks to get to the roots of what it means to be a Believer, and we seek to nurture those roots, and never leave them. Christianity is all about acceptance and appreciation, not ever about trying to be something that you're not, even in the smallest way. We need to actively fight against that type of feeling that slips in so easily when Christians try to be serious about their faith and agree to standards. Such practices belong to the world, and are not for us. We need to relax and be free.
You don't have to have all the answers, and you don't have to live any particular way. You are good enough already, and no matter what you do, you'll always be good enough. But you're not good enough because of how you live, or what you know; you're good enough because God showed himself to you. So we need to focus on God's presence, and on nothing else. Christian Anarchism is about removing the distractions, and uniting around the pure and complete truth, which is that only God matters. |
