About Us
The Christian Anarchist Network is a place to renew our thinking, to identify ourselves as fully spiritual creatures, not bound by material requirements. The material requirements of life have to do with our bodies, but not with us--who we are on the inside; our true selves.
Most churches today are not clear on this. Churches today are getting more and more strict about their doctrines and creeds, which they claim define the true believer. But don't they realize that faith is not defined by repeating a creed, or subscribing to a particular doctrine?
Just about any church you go to nowadays is the same. The pastors work hard to get their doctrine just right, so they have an answer to everything, and they know that most pastors around the country will agree with them. In fact, this is so serious that it's correct to call this movement a cult--it is the cult of getting doctrine just right.
The main problem with this is that the love goes out the window. Facts are not the truth, and focusing on facts, and making them your God, is the worst kind of heresy. This is exactly what Jesus was talking about when He said that the teachers block the entrance, and don't go in themselves. These pastors are pushing a vibe that makes us afraid to speak our minds, because only what they say is good enough to be said out loud. That's not human!!!
Christian Anarchism means that we don't care about getting everything straight as far as dotted i's and crossed t's. At least, we're not counting on that to improve our lives. Sure, it's nice to get anything right, but when we talk about the Gospel, shouldn't it be Good News?!! Shouldn't it be fun, and friendly, and encouraging? Shouldn't it make you feel better about yourself? Jesus said that the truth sets you free. Do you feel freer when your pastor nails the doctrine down a little more perfectly each time, or do you feel like you're suffocating?
This is not to knock an honest attempt to become knowledgable about God's Word about human beings. What we're against is the fear, self-loathing, and exclusivity that many churches are slipping towards. It's easy to read the Bible and think that this is what God is recommending, but it isn't; they're making a mistake. God wants us to be free, relaxed, and easy going. The truth we teach is love--nothing more, nothing less. It's simple enough for a child; in fact only in a childlike way can we teach and learn the truth. So why all these complications? They serve no good purpose, but only divide us, and make it hard to move forward. |
